Most cables contain filling elements to make them larger in diameter and thus appear more valuable. Such additions may make a cable look more impressive, but unfortunately they are otherwise not merely useless: Fillers cause electrical and mechanical interactions that affect the signal and thus deprive the music reproduction of any 'liveliness' and energy.

Northeast therefore follows a straightforward 'less is more' approach to audio cable design: an excellent cable requires superior materials and design principles - nothing else. Each Red Dawn Interconnect uses six oxygen-free, silver-plated solid core copper conductors of 0.5 mm² cross-section, each individually encased in a precision extruded low capacitance FEP layer. These conductors are arranged in a precisely defined, mechanically stable geometry that ensures equal spacing between the conductors and a uniformly twisted shape. This strand is finally surrounded by a fine protective braid and an FEP sheath.

The principle of maximum effectiveness and precision is continued in this design right up to the selection of the most suitable connectors: The cables of the Leif series are assembled by hand in the USA using particularly lightweight Neutrik RCA connectors or balanced XLR connectors. Only silver solder is used to comply with the RoHS directive and to ensure the quality and durability of each connection.

The result is an audio cable that comes as close as possible to the hi-fi ideal: absolute integrity of the signal, nothing is added to the music and nothing is obfuscated.
