Mundorf MCAPZN
The MCAPZN® is a tin foil capacitor. For its manufacture, a solid tin foil is processed together with high-quality polypropylene as the dielectric*. The solid tin layer improves the tonal properties in the following way: The high weight of the tin foil and the resulting inertia effectively prevent the foil from vibrating and the associated microphonic effect. Similar to the more transparency and three-dimensionality.
Thanks to state-of-the-art winding technology, we are now able to manufacture the MCap® ZN from high-purity, RoHS-compliant tin foil without lead content. The addition of lead was previously necessary to achieve the softness of material required for the manufacture of capacitor windings, but always resulted in a tonal influence on the music signal. Lead-free tin foil therefore means - in addition to positive environmental aspects - a further progress in sound for the '08 generation of our MCap® ZN: Increased neutrality.
Finally, the high inertia prevents the winding from resonating - in favour of better transparency and spatiality. The MCap® ZN is mainly used where very small signals are processed.
Due to the improved conductivity of the metal foil, the loss angle tan d at 1 kHz is ten times smaller than that of a normal MKP capacitor, it is only 0.00002 at 1 kHz and even only 0.00001 at 10 kHz. This makes this capacitor incredibly fast and pointed. The MCAPZN® is mainly used where the smallest signals are processed, such as in a preamplifier.
