The fifth Dire Straits album has achieved world fame. It was the first popular album to take advantage of the longer playing time of the CD compared to the LP and the world tour of Dire Straits was actively supported by the CD industry. Countless top hits such as "Money for Nothing" have been recorded.

There are success albums. There are blockbusters. And there are Brothers in Arms. One of the world's best-selling albums, which catapulted Mark Knopfler and band to the top, and which won two Grammy Awards, including in the category "Best Mixing". Brothers In Arms is the kind of epic album, only a few of which are released in a decade. Always a reference work for audiophiles, MFSL will release the sonic masterpiece as a hybrid SACD in 2013. For this, the PCM recording in the analogue mixing console was reworked and finally converted to DSD. Brothers in Arms has never sounded so realistic, balanced, dynamic and complex as on this release.

MTV may have contributed to the enormous success of the album, but it is above all the excellently crafted songs and the unforgettable instrumental playing of the musicians involved that make it a classic. Mark Knopfler's guitar riffs and Sting's vocals in Money for Nothing are and remain unmistakable for every music lover. The Hybrid-SACD, newly mastered by Shawn R. Britton, is released in a limited edition with consecutive serial number and booklet with all lyrics in a mini LP cover.

This album has caused a lot of discussion among audiophile collectors due to the large number of releases, three CD variants alone, one XRCD and one multi-channel SACD. Compared to the first release in 1985, the MFSL version has a really minimal more compression, which was necessary to work out small details in the vocals even more accurately. However, the sound enthusiast will be pleased with the much richer sound with finer vocal reproduction and a drum kit with full resolution but without exaggerated sharpness. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like it did in the early 80s, when digital precision was the measure of all things for the new medium CD.

This title is an SHM-SACD. This format is the further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (Super High Material). It achieves significantly better readability of the pit-land structures on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. Universal's SHM-SACDs are generally re-digitized in DSD from the master tapes of the albums without any changes. SHM-SACDs can be played back on any SACD player.
