DALI Phantom E-60 in-ceiling Loudspeaker round
DALI's PHANTOM E built-in speaker series is primarily designed for ceiling installation, but the speakers can also be mounted in walls. Thanks to their particularly compact design and the ingeniously simple compass positioning system, the speakers are ready for use in no time at all. The sound characteristics of the loudspeakers can be optimized to the respective room and the acoustic conditions via two switches. The slightly angled woofer and the dome tweeter, which is placed just outside the centre, harmonise perfectly with each other and deliver a detailed and crisp sound. The polypropylene membrane is better equipped to withstand moisture than the wood fibre membranes normally used by DALI. This makes the PHANTOM E series even more versatile than other DALI built-in loudspeakers. Square speaker covers are also available as an option for the PHANTOM E Series models.
The PHANTOM E-50 is a particularly compact built-in loudspeaker. It requires an installation opening of only 19.9 cm in diameter. The combination of a 130 mm bass/midrange driver and a 28 mm fabric dome tweeter guarantees velvety soft yet dynamic music reproduction.
BUILD-UP & MOUNTING
DALI's PHANTOM E-50 not only combines compact dimensions with outstanding acoustic performance, it also translates the benefits of a traditional cabinet speaker into wall and ceiling installation. The drivers of the two-way system are fixed in a sturdy baffle made of solid MDF to save space. This means that the chassis has solid working conditions and is free of disturbing vibrations. In addition, the robust construction ensures optimal integration into the wall or ceiling.
The PHANTOM E-50 can be mounted in no time at all: the completely redesigned baffle becomes thicker towards the outer edges, making it tighter and more secure in the mounting surface. This construction also contributes to a better stability of the whole speaker. The PHANTOM E-50 is fixed by swivelling clamps, which can be securely locked with a screwdriver from the baffle and can be used on a mounting surface up to 70 mm thick.
PHANTOM E-Series enclosures are designed to be particularly flat and to integrate the speakers harmoniously into their surroundings. They are fixed by two invisible magnets. The scope of delivery includes two round front covers, square ones are available as accessories for an extra charge.
FREQUENCY RANGE
The crossover has been specially designed for the PHANTOM E-50 and consists of selected components that meet the highest audiophile requirements.
All PHANTOM E-Series models have a protective circuit. This protects the drivers from possible overloading when the speakers are playing at very high volume for a long time. Since built-in loudspeakers are often installed in such a way that they should not only be used in the room in which they are installed, the PHANTOM E-50 is also well secured in this way if, for example, the receiver in the next room turns up the volume for a short period of time and the loudspeakers would be damaged without school switching. The protective circuit acts like a fuse when a too high current flows.
The cabling of the speaker drivers is designed and fastened in such a way that all connections are held securely and no disturbing noise can be generated. The terminals are placed directly on the crossover board to keep the signal path as short as possible. Spring terminals ensure a secure and durable connection to the speaker cable.
TWEETER
The 25 mm fabric dome tweeter is housed in a plastic housing and sits almost centrally above the bass/midrange driver. The two arms of the holder are aerodynamically shaped like the profile of an aircraft wing. The coaxial arrangement of the two chassis makes the dimensions of the system particularly compact. The special shape of the holder for the tweeter and its placement just outside the centre of the cabinet prevent the "coaxial discolouration" that is typical for Koxial systems, caused by the arrangement of the drivers. Nevertheless, the listeners are able to fully enjoy the great advantage of such systems - an exceptionally spatial sound image.
The scale division of a compass ring at the edge of the speaker helps to align the speaker optimally for the respective room.
WOOFER
The PHANTOM E-50 should also be able to be used in applications where traditional DALI housing loudspeakers are not possible or recommended - for example in basements, bathrooms or protected outdoor areas. Polypropylene diaphragms are made of polypropylene to ensure both optimum durability and excellent sound quality.
The midrange / bass driver is installed at a slight incline, which allows the system to be angled in one direction and thus provides targeted sound reinforcement. Diaphragm, bead and solenoid actuator are designed to minimise losses in accordance with the DALI philosophy. This allows the PHANTOM E-50 to develop its full sound quality even with comparatively small amplifiers.
RADIATION ACTACTERISTICS
All DALI loudspeakers are designed according to the principle of the widest possible angle of radiation. This is because not only should the listeners experience a distinctive stereo panorama in the middle opposite the speakers, as is customary with many other loudspeakers, but also those persons who are located at the side or farther back in the listening room. This approach is particularly suitable for use in conjunction with speakers integrated flush with the ceiling or wall. This ensures that DALI's PHANTOM series ensures that music, speech and film soundtracks are reproduced in a way that is easy to understand and spatially accurate, regardless of the position of the listener in the entire room.
The PHANTOM E-50 has two switches to change the sound. Audio settings that can be used to adjust the speaker power. The switches can be set independently of each other.
When the first switch is set from "Normal" to "HF tilt", the sound pressure level of the tweeter is increased by 3 dB. This can be recommended, for example, if one of the PHANTOM E-50 loudspeakers is installed further away from the others. With the high frequency level raised, the listeners then feel all systems again at the same level and accordingly balanced and spatially.
