Black Forest Audio Record clamp DÄD!CLÄMP
The Black Forest Audio Record clamp DÄD!CLÄMP has the claim to achieve the most natural sound on all plate materials. Despite the firm connection between spindle and record, no discoloring waste energy is transferred to the record and wavy records are "ironed".

90 x 50 mm (D x H)
Description
With plate clamps and weights, as with mats, there is a flood of concepts and materials whose function and side effects often need to be seriously questioned. Weights designed to press the record flat onto the platter are the easiest to understand as the wrong way to go when dealing with the issue of mass on the drive and platter. Large mass can simply absorb much more mechanical waste energy from the scanning process, which then returns to the scanning needle with a time delay and "interferes" with the current scanning process. Apparently positively a more powerful bass is often registered here. A real bass, however, is absolutely weightless, fast and transparent. This can be experienced live especially impressively with a symphony orchestra with eight double basses! In the mid-high range, blurring effects lead to reduced resolution and transparency.
With the DÄD!MAT, dynamics and timing increase significantly with mass drives, confirming the processes described above. The second aspect is the interference energy transfer from the drive via the center axis by metal weight or metal clamp directly into the record! Good to hear, if you don't get distracted by the seemingly positive effects. Just as the perfect platter mat forms a practically insurmountable barrier for mechanical energy between the platter and the record, the perfect record clamp should achieve this between the platter spindle and the record, which is much more difficult.
DÄD!CLÄMP follows DÄD!MÄT
In 1985, Volker Kühn developed the DampClamp record clamp for Audioplan, which was already totally metal-free and is still available today. In connection with the DÄD!MÄT, it seemed to make sense to find an appropriately elaborate solution that fulfills several functions:
- Low mass = 100 grams;
- Connection of the record to the turntable = clamping screw;
- Interruption of the mechanical energy flow = material mix;
- Flat position of the record by meterable pressure=pressure screw;
- "Ironing" of wavy records by bell-shaped pressure via an elastic washer.
Handling the DÄD!CLÄMP plate clamp
The easy handling of the DÄD!CLÄMP
The DÄD!CLÄMP comes assembled ready for use. Unscrew the clamping screw to take the clamp out of the packaging and immediately unscrew it by 2 turns. Now turn the pressing screw to the left until it starts to run sluggishly. The guide now protrudes from the bottom of the pressing bell so far that it is flush with the edge of the bell. If you now grip the DÄD!CLÄMP with your thumb and 3 fingers, your index finger will push down the clamping screw with guide and the collet will stand forward open to be placed on the platen axle.
Hold the clamp lightly with your left hand while your right hand tightens the clamping screw so that the DÄD!CLÄMP does not push off upwards when the pressing screw is tightened. You will gain experience very quickly.
